June 2026 marks Olamalu’s 16th birthday, a significant milestone in the life of the company, and we’re excited to be able to celebrate it with you. To mark the occasion, we’re thrilled to be sharing with you a sneak peek of our new identity.
Before we dive into the new identity, let’s take a step back to reflect on the history of Olamalu. Back in 2009, founders Kate and Christoph took the plunge by stepping away from their corporate careers to build the business that had been bubbling away in the back of their minds. Driven by a desire to solve problems coupled with a deep curiosity about technology and how it can help people achieve their ambitions, they laid the foundations for the launch of Olamalu in 2010.
From our inception, we defined three core values which are Care, Excellence and Learning. These values characterise everything we do, from delivering top-quality projects to nurturing our latest apprentice. We’re proud of these values and our down-to-earth, friendly approach, which has led us to work with a wonderful variety of clients over the years. From historic Oxbridge colleges and departments through to cutting-edge research groups and successful independent businesses, every one of you has contributed to our success and longevity.
We’re grateful for the incredible support that you have given us over the past 16 years. It’s been an honour to work with you all, and we look forward to the next 16 years. To take you on the next step of our journey, we’re proud to be sharing with you our new identity.
Our current identity has been in circulation for over 10 years, and now feels like the perfect time to inject some new energy into the brand. One of our aims as an organisation is to keep our clients ahead of the curve to enable them to perform at their very best. We felt like the time had come for us to apply that same thinking to ourselves.
To do this, we zoomed out to give ourselves the clearest and widest picture of what Olamalu is today. We quickly realised that our offering has widened significantly over the years. 10 years ago, our work was primarily focused on building websites and creating apps. Those technologies are still a core area of expertise, but we now cover a sweeping range of services from all aspects of digital design through to bespoke technical projects and unique narrative development. With all that said, we felt that our current identity was holding us back from showcasing the breadth and depth of our work.
From a competitive standpoint, we wanted to reinvigorate our brand to go toe-to-toe with other agencies within the industry. For us, that meant that our new identity needed to pull no punches in terms of its impact, energy and messaging. Our brand now sits at the apex of modernity, vibrancy and fun to create a truly memorable identity.
You may have wondered where we got our slightly unusual name from and what it means. It starts with a bedtime story that Christoph conjured up for their children when they were young, and at the centre of that story sat the magical ‘Olamalu tree’. The Olamalu tree was at the heart of many bedtime adventures and felt like a fitting name for the new organisation embarking on its own adventure.
The Olamalu tree is our defining brandmark, and we established that this needed to be retained as part of the rebrand. Our current brandmark has served us well for many years, but we felt that its level of detail and complexity held us back from standing out and preventing us from using it in more versatile settings.
This helped us determine a clear direction for the new logo. We wanted to keep the Olamalu tree at the heart of our identity, so we started the creative branding process by exploring this idea with the whole team, sketching out ideas. This collaborative process led us to the distinctiveness of the leaves in our old logo, the idea that branches of a tree provide support and are yet still flexible to adapt to the conditions around them, a tree provides shade and cover from prevailing weather, fresh leaves reflect growth and new ideas, and trees are simply beautiful things. We wanted to capture this in the new logo with the suggestion of new growth, freshness, the supportive strength of the boughs, flexibility and movement.
The end result has led us to a new brandmark that’s clear and has the confidence to stand alone. All the while feeling like a natural evolution from the tree used in the current logo to a more contemporary design that sets the tone for the rest of the identity.
Care, Excellence and Learning remain the three values that sit at the heart of Olamalu. Everything we do orbits those values, and we want to ensure that our new identity can facilitate that and help us present ourselves as a top digital agency.

As part of our pledge to deliver Care and Excellence to our clients, we wanted to reflect those two values prominently within the new brand. Our new identity blends contemporary design techniques with striking creativity that showcases the very best qualities of Olamalu.
Learning and innovation have been a key feature of our approach. As many of you are aware, we have an award-winning, nationally recognised apprenticeship programme like no other. Around 50% of our team have joined us via this career path, which we’re incredibly proud of, and this new identity provides us with a more creative platform to showcase those stories. Our ability to learn and innovate together as a team has enabled us to bring you the very best digital solutions out there.
What we’ve showcased here is only a small window into the next chapter of the Olamalu story. Our team is working on the finishing touches of a new website ahead of a full brand launch in September 2026. All aspects of Olamalu’s visual identity will change, and we can’t wait to make a splash when the time comes. Finally, we wanted to thank you all for your passionate support over the years, and we wouldn’t be where we are today without you. It’s been an absolute honour and pleasure growing alongside many of our clients, building lasting friendships along the way, and we’re delighted to be taking you on this next step with us.
